Kitchen Project

This is the area under the old refrigerator. The refrigerator failed while I was gone to San Antonio for a wedding. It looks like it was leaking for some time.
After removal of the old vinyl and left with wondering how to proceed, a plan was formulated.
First the floor had to be leveled up with spacer vinyl tiles. Then leveling compound was used to fill in the spaces around the tiles.
Then a small portion of the bottom of the trim was removed with the new multipurpose tool just for such things. It's an amazing tool that can trim off the bottom of trim without having to take off the trim.
Then a smooth 1/4 inch sheathing is laid down on top of the old floor and screwed into the floor. The screw heads and cracks around the cabinets are filled with self leveling compound. Then sanding down the compound to smooth with the shealthing is next.
Since the opportunity offed itself, I decided to paint the wall a different color as well. It took two coats of Kilz 2 to cover up the mustard yellow before the final coat of heavenly blue was put on the wall.
The first of the self stick vinyl title was laid.
The new refrigerator is now in place and work on the floor continues.
Another floor patch is done. This area has been missing for years with just a rug covering the missing vinyl.
It's actually starting to look like a new floor. So let's continue.
So there's the next section to lay down the floor. It's a challenge to put down a floor around all the furniture.

The kitchen floor is now almost complete. The kick board around the cabinets and round molding is all that's left to do in the kitchen. I haven't decided what will be next just yet. I'm leaning toward the painting of the south kitchen wall. I have the paint and the drop cloth. I have tape to tape off the trim.
The kitchen is now complete and the dining room is under replacement. The china hutch has to be moved into the living room to be able to lay down the new floor. Sliders were put under the legs of the hutch.

A strap was cinched down to keep the top from tipping off the bottom of the hutch. Then inch by inch the hutch was moved into the living room to it's final resting place.
This is the final resting place of the hutch. It was moved without one single mishap with the contents of the hutch. So now the rest of the dining room floor can be replaced.

The floor is starting to look pretty darn good. I hope it does last for 20 years like the information says it will. I'm hoping to get this done before Spring.

March did indeed come roaring in like a lion and perhaps compared to the beginning of March it went out like a lamb. It still has lingering tinge of Winter hanging on especially during the frosty early morning hours. This is my favorite time of the year when Spring flowers are showing their bold color displays and the bird's songs are filled with joyful sounds. I really love to watch nature wake up from the Winter slumber and tree's buds turn into leaves.
